A new look in the New Year
With the festive season just around the corner, the FLO team at Le Va are busy revamping the content and resources in the FLO Talanoa suicide prevention education programme in preparation for the new year with a refreshed focus!
Faiva Ora Community Innovation Fund now open
Le Va is seeking proposals from Pasifika community groups for innovative projects that support Pasifika people with disabilities and align with the Ministry of Health’s Faiva Ora Action Plan.
Surfing the waves
As part of the 5th International Conference of Te Ao Māramatanga (New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses), Le Va supported ‘Surfing the Waves’ with a post conference half day workshop that focussed on engaging Pasifika families and communities in mental health services.
An organisational approach to cultural competency
Research into New Zealand’s mental health and addictions populations demonstrate that although Pasifika people have high rates of mental illness, Pasifika people have low access rates to services – and when they do access, it tends to be in a crisis situation or when issues have become quite severe.
Walking the talk for holistic wellbeing
Le Va’s Cultural and Relationship Manager, Saveatama Eroni Clarke, became a vegan for the month of October to kindle a healthier lifestyle. Family has always been important to Eroni, and so he has evolved his own patterns of behaviour, for better health, and has shared his personal journey of change with us.
Collaborative approach behind new mental health and addiction quality improvement programme
Le Va is part of a new nationwide programme that will see consumers, their whānau/ families, and service providers working together to improve mental health and addiction services so that people get the best care possible.
