#YouthPreventingSuicide – Flo community fund project

In collaborACTION with Vaka Tautua,  Legacy Performing Arts is leading a Le Va-funded Pasifika Suicide Prevention community initiative.

In the past 15 weeks, Legacy has facilitated workshops with three Auckland-based, Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, EFKS youth groups, engaging up to 50 young people. The workshops have been designed to raise awareness about the issues relating to suicide, and equip Pasifika youth with tools to address issues around suicide and a voice to express their perspectives, figuratively and literally.

Legacy and the group of talented young people provided three heartfelt performances over the weekend of 3-4 July. They performed to a full house at the Corban Estate Arts Centre, showcasing an array of talents through song, dance, spoken-word poetry and acting.

This initiative has successfully exceeded its reach. Legacy’s Facebook page #YouthPreventingSuicide2015 has more than 2,000 likes, and at least 10 per cent of its followers are talking about Echoing Silence.

Well done Neli Alo, Vau Atonio and Metitilani Alo (Le Va Flo Ambassador), founders of Legacy Performing Arts group, for all of your hard and tireless work towards positively impacting on Pasifika young people, families and communities in the creative space towards reducing suicide.
