Being in a space surrounded by brown excellence and alongside other Pasifika leaders reminded me that together we can create real impact for our communities.
I applied to Le Tautua to continue growing as a Pacific leader and strengthen my confidence to lead with purpose and humility. After hearing how deeply the programme has impacted others, I wanted to experience that growth myself, to connect with fellow Pasifika changemakers, refine my leadership skills, and be equipped to create meaningful change for our communities.
Pasifika leadership to me is grounded in service, culture and collective strength. It’s about leading with alofa, humility and courage, honouring the sacrifices of our ancestors while creating pathways for future generations.
True Pasifika leadership uplifts others, values relationships and centres the wellbeing of our communities. It’s not about position or power, but about serving with purpose and representing our people with integrity.
The most valuable thing I learned during Le Tautua was the importance of leading from a place of authenticity. I was reminded that true strength comes from vulnerability, connection and staying anchored in our why.
I was especially inspired by Mati Dr Elizabeth Mati as a mum, academic and leader in Pasifika health. I will carry her lessons into my work by speaking up boldly and supporting others to grow.
Le Tautua has given me the confidence to recognise that my voice matters. My long-term vision is to keep growing as a confident Pacific leader who uses her voice to create lasting change.
I joined Le Tautua hoping to strengthen my leadership skills and find clarity in my vision. I absolutely achieved that and more. The programme gave me the courage to speak up and believe in my abilities. I left feeling empowered, grounded in culture and ready to lead with purpose.
Looking after my wellbeing as a leader means recognising my limits and knowing when to say no. I’ve learned that taking on too many responsibilities, whether that be at work or in my personal life, doesn’t just affect me, it limits opportunities for others to step up and grow. As a Pasifika leader, it can be hard to set boundaries, but it’s pivotal for creating a healthy work-life balance.
If you are considering applying for Le Tautua – DO IT! Even as a Le Va staff member, I found the programme incredibly empowering. Over two days, I gained confidence, courage and clarity about my leadership journey. Being in a space surrounded by brown excellence and alongside other Pasifika leaders reminded me that together we can create real impact for our communities.
