Last month, 20 local church leaders, Pasifika NGO workers and central government staff attended our first Auckland-based FLO Talanoa workshop! 

Le Va is achieving results in Public Health workforce development that are contributing to the actions and goals of our important national strategies. 

Our disability lead Ben Tameifuna spent Labour weekend supporting Reverend Tevita Finau as he delivered a positive message from the pulpit to more 200 parishioners at the Lotofale’ia (the Tongan Methodist Church) in Mangere.

Pasifikology is a network of those involved in the Pasifika psychology sector in New Zealand, and was a recipient of the FLO Pasifika Community fund. Pasifikology’s initiative was to develop a postvention online resource.

The ‘Mātua project’ led by Dot Greenfield from Vaka Tautua, builds awareness among Samoan Mātua of the issues being faced by Pacific communities relating to suicide and other challenging issues, such as mental health or intergenerational dynamics. The project is funded through Le Va’s FLO community fund. 

Suicide is an issue of genuine public concern, and the Pasifika media perform an important role informing and educating communities about this complex issue.
