Sir Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford and Lady Jo Shelford

Former All Black / Mātanga Rongoā (Rongoā Practitioner)

Sir Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford is a legendary All Black, best known for captaining the team from 1987 to 1990 and leading them to Rugby World Cup victory. Beyond rugby, he is a dedicated advocate for wellbeing, drawing from both his sporting career and personal health journey.

Lady Jo Shelford (Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa, Ngāpuhi ki Whangaroa, Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Maru – Pare Hauraki) is a Mātanga Rongoā (Rongoā Practitioner), leading hauora clinics in Hauraki and supporting whānau through traditional Māori healing.

As guest speakers at the GPS dinner, Wayne and Jo will be discussing “Te Kiwi Māia” which was established to provide rehabilitation, support, and holistic care to New Zealand’s first responders and defence force personnel who have been injured or are experiencing psychological distress due to their service. Recognising the physical and mental toll on those who serve Aotearoa, Te Kiwi Māia offers a tailored, culturally responsive approach to healing.  Both are patrons of Te Kiwi Māia, alongside Sir Jerry Mataparae, Mike Bush, and Dame Patsy Reddy.
