Roimata Prendergast is a multifaceted artist and educator based in Auckland, New Zealand. She is of Māori, Kuki Airani, and Tahitian descent, with affiliations to Ngāti Kahu and Ngāti Tara, as well as connections to Mauke, Kimianagatau, and Ra’iatea.
In her professional capacity, Roimata serves as the Education Manager and Storytelling Coordinator at Howick Historical Village in Pakuranga, Auckland. Her role involves developing educational programs and coordinating storytelling initiatives that engage visitors with New Zealand’s history.
Beyond her educational endeavors, Roimata is an active participant in the arts community. She is a member of the South Auckland Poets Collective and BRŌWNALFĀ, a collective dedicated to Pacific art and culture. Roimata has been involved in various artistic projects, including the “Pacific Frequencies, Mahu An Audio Exhibition,” which showcases Pacific art and narratives.
Her contributions to the arts have been recognised in events such as the “Auckland: Speaks National Poetry Day edition,” where she collaborated with fellow artists to present spoken word performances. Additionally, Roimata has been featured in interviews discussing her artistic journey and perspectives on Auckland’s cultural landscape.
