My name is Luna Zhao. I was born and grew up in China – my hometown is well known for its “white mountains and black waters.” I received my PhD from the School of Social Sciences at the University of Auckland in 2025, and I’m a researcher working with both quantitative and qualitative methods, specialising in the study of ethnic minority groups.
As someone who is part of an ethnic minority group myself, I have a personal understanding of the struggles and challenges these communities can face. This is what drives my passion for research and storytelling – I want to help share our stories and experiences through meaningful research. Over the years, I’ve been involved in a number of research projects exploring the diversity and identities of ethnic communities, and my work has been published in international journals focusing on politics and public policy.
It is a great honour to join the Le Va team and use my research skills to support Pacific-focused initiatives. I hope to be a thoughtful storyteller who helps bring forward the unique voices and experiences of people in the community.
