Dr MahMah Timoteo Tohoa Tetini

Environmental Anthropologist; Pacific Student Advisor, University of Canterbury

Kia orana! My name is Dr MahMah Timoteo (Tohoa Tetini). I am a Cook Island multidisciplinary teacher, Pacific student advisor, and researcher with a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Canterbury. My doctoral research explored the lived experiences of Pacific peoples navigating climate change spaces in Aotearoa.

My work and research interests span climate change, Pacific peoples and communities, intersectionality, Indigenous liberation, queer liberation, body liberation, and well-being. I am deeply committed to uplifting marginalized voices and advocating for systemic change.

Beyond academia, I am passionate about creating and holding space in online communities that challenge oppressive systems while centering joy, rest, and collective care. I am a proud member of Moana Vā, a Pacific rainbow organization based in Ōtautahi, and I co-host the podcast ‘Two Fat ‘Fine’, which celebrates queer, fat joy.

Through a combination of my research, advocacy, and social media presence, I have had the privilege of speaking in inspiring spaces, whether through lectures, workshops, conferences, panel discussions, MCing, or community events and festivals. I am continuously grateful for the opportunity to do this mahi alongside incredible people and communities.

Meitaki ma’ata.
