Eligibility

The Ministry of Health Pacific Health Workforce Awards target the following workforce priority qualifications:

  • medicine (all specialties)
  • nursing
  • oral health practitioners (dentistry, associated specialties, and all other qualification levels)
  • midwifery
  • allied health specialties of: dieticians, podiatrists, speech languages therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical laboratory technicians.

There are also awards for (but not limited to) the following:

  • community health workers
  • care and support workers in health
  • health researchers
  • health managers.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a Ministry of Health Pacific Health Workforce Award, all recipients must:

  • be a New Zealand resident or permanent resident at the time of application
  • be successfully enrolled or enrolling in a health-related qualification for 2011 at a tertiary or accredited training provider in New Zealand
  • be able to demonstrate strong linkages and leadership qualities within an educational environment and/or Pacific community
  • submit a completed application form, with all corresponding documentation attached by 5pm, 22 October 2010.

No late or incomplete applications will be accepted.

Selection criteria

All applications undergo a robust assessment process involving an external Pacific Health Workforce Awards assessment panel in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The decision of the assessment panel for the allocation of awards is final.

Selection criteria include (but are not limited to):

  • being of indigenous Pacific Islands ethnicity
  • chosen course of study
  • academic merit
  • connection to Pacific Islands communities
  • connection to a Pacific health provider
  • socio-economic need
  • leadership potential.
